Smartparts SP72 7-Inch Digital Picture Wood Frame Seems Good On Paper

Smartparts SP72

Smartparts SP72

In a rather dramatic example of wasted potential, this digital picture frame from Smartparts (SP72) offers a score of eye catching features that sound like a fantastic deal. However, in reality, the complaints about this product stack up quickly, turning it into a product that makes a great first impression but ultimately carries a big risk of falling flat.

Some of the features that make the Smartparts SP72 so tempting are:

  • The classically designed 7-inch screen with an impressive 480×234 resolution for crisp, clear photos
  • A real wood frame and beige matting that fits in with almost any decor
  • Included software Optipix Pro that can sharpen, edit, and compress your photos to allow even more storage space
  • An automatic slideshow feature that set up your viewing without any fuss and bother on your part
  • Two viewing modes for more variety
  • A low, competitive price that beats a lot of its competition

With all these great pluses, it’s no wonder that at first glance, this product seems like an amazing deal. However, a closer look at the company’s history and the details of the product merit further consideration. While the simple design holds up in quality, the resolution seems a bit low, even at this comparatively low price point.

The lack of control over your slideshows is great for the techno-dunce who just wants to turn it on and have pictures. Those of us who like bit more customization are left in the cold. What’s even worse is that Smartparts is not known for their customer service – in fact, the Better Business Bureau lists the company as being out of business.

If you want a low tech digital frame and don’t mind gambling on the product, the Smartparts SP72 is a nice clean fit. If you want just that little bit more, I’d look elsewhere.

Sony S-Frame DPP-F700 Reviewed

S-Frame DPP-F700

S-Frame DPP-F700

Everyone knows Sony makes a huge variety of excellent products and consumers in the United States have waited some time to get the latest Sony S-Frame.

This is one device that really kicks it up a notch when it comes to digital photo frames. Not only do you get all the typical features you’d expect from this type of frame, you also get the ability to print your photos out right on the spot using this frame!

That is quite an upgrade from past devices and seriously threatens to change the way we view these digital image storage display devices.

Here are the features you get with this device:

  • Photo Frame & Printer All-in-One so there are no separate pieces to mess with
  • Can store 2,000 2MP Photos without expansion
  • 4 x 6″ Photos can be printed in under one minute
  • Printing does not require your own PC or any other equipment, the S-Frame does it for you
  • Widescreen 7″ Color LCD Display for crystal clear photo quality
  • Remote Control so you can test out how things look from afar
  • Auto Orientation Sensor means less confusion over your image displaying
  • Easily Create Slideshows that you can have run automatically

The design is streamlined and very tech savvy, not wasting any space or calling too much attention to itself. Since it can print BMP, JPG and TIFF images on the fly, you’ve got a much more powerful friend in the S-Frame than any other digital photo frame on the market.

One button to press when you print and very high DPI printing means you get photo quality images the way Polaroid would have done. This is definitely a huge leap forward for those dedicated to living the digital lifestyle. Check out the latest S-Frame from Sony today.

Digital cameras are rapidly replacing traditional cameras due to their ease of use and digital photo frames are definitely taking over the photo display market.

Pandigital 7-Inch Multi Frame Collage Digital Picture Frame

The Pandigital PAN7004MU01 7-Inch Multi Frame Collage Digital Picture Frame is rather unique in that it has several areas for your pictures to show. The good news is that you can get this digital collage frame really cheap these days.

You should note, though, that there’s only one 7 inch digital display. The other slots hold normal printed photos.  The horizontal opening in the upper right is 7″x5″ while the two verticals are 4×6. This should help you decide if it’s going to be the right photo frame for you.

  • Pandigital Collage Frame

    Pandigital Collage Frame

Stylish Black Wood  Frame Designed to fit any décor

  • 128MB of Internal Memory Holds up to 1,000 Images
  • 7.0 Viewable LCD Display Multi Frame Collage – 480 x 234 Screen Resolution – Contrast Ratio 350:1
  • 6 in 1 Memory Card Reader – SD Format
  • Calendar / Analog Clock
  • Remote Control – USB Cord – Quick Start Guide – Manual

The internal memory isn’t that much to be honest, but it does take SD memory cards, which means you can load it up with photos. It would be really cool if they came out with a collage frame that was all digital – maybe there’s one out there. I’ll have to look.

In the meantime, this is a pretty cool way to display normal printed photos and all your favorite digital pics. The price is reasonable and there haven’t been too many complaints about this digital photo frame around the Internet, so it looks like a good bet that this one will fit your needs well.

If you have it, we’d love to hear what you think – good or bad!
